Telegram has been known for sharing large-sized photos and videos with any loss in quality. And with the introduction of Telegram Premium, you can send files up to 4GB in size. For faster transfer data transfer speeds, connecting to a Wi-Fi network is recommended.
However, some users complain that the Telegram app is not working on Wi-Fi on their iPhone or Android. If you are also facing similar issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, here are some troubleshooting methods to fix Telegram not connecting to Wi-Fi on iPhone and Android.
1. Switch to a 5GHz Wi-Fi Network
Starting with the first solution if you cannot use Telegram on Wi-Fi is to switch to a 5GHz frequency band, if you have a dual-band router. Switching to a 5GHz frequency band will instantly improve your internet speed and you can conduct a speed test to confirm that your Internet Service Provider is not facing any downtime.
2. Disable Low Data Mode on Wi-Fi
After you connect to a 5GHz frequency band on Wi-Fi network, you need to check whether the option of Low Data Mode for Wi-Fi has been disabled on your iPhone. For Android, you need to ensure that the particular Wi-Fi network has not been treated as a Metered Connection. Here’s how.
For iPhone
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Wi-Fi.
Step 3: Tap the ‘i’ icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
Step 4: Tap the toggle next to Low Data Mode to disable the feature.
Step 5: Close the Settings app and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
For Android
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Android phone.
Step 2: Tap on Network and Internet.
Step 3: Select Internet.
Step 4: Tap the Settings icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network name.
Step 5: Tap Network Usage and check if it has been set to Detect Automatically.

3. Disable Low Power Mode
If Telegram is still not connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi, you need to disable Low Power Mode or Low Battery Mode on your device. In this mode, you may not get good internet speeds with your connected Wi-Fi network to conserve battery life. That’s why we recommend turning it off.

4. Check the Data Settings on Telegram App
After you have taken care of the internet data settings on your phone, you need to check the data usage settings of Telegram. The app gives you different options to limit data usage. Here’s how to check the same.
Step 1: Open Telegram on your iPhone or Android phone.
Step 2: Tap the Settings icon on the bottom-right corner (iPhone).
For Android, tap the hamburger menu icon at the top-left corner and select Settings.
Step 3: Select Data and Storage.
Step 4: Check all the data settings and ensure none has been disabled.
You should also check and disable less data usage for calls on Telegram.
Step 5: Return to your chats and check if the problem is solved.
5. Disable Unrestricted Data Usage (Android)
If you have an Android phone and have enabled Data Saver, you should check if unrestricted data usage has been enabled for Telegram. Here’s how.
Step 1: Long-press the Telegram app icon and tap on App Info.
Step 2: Tap on Mobile Data and Wi-Fi.
Step 3: Tap the toggle next to Unrestricted Data Usage to enable this feature.
Step 4: Close App Info and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
6. Enable Background App Refresh (iPhone)
Background App Refresh is aimed at keeping your app data updated while it runs in the background. To resume your Telegram downloads while the app runs in the background, you should check if you have enabled this feature for the app.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Telegram.
Step 3: Tap the toggle next to Background App Refresh to enable the feature.

7. Switch to Public DNS Service
