Telegram is a good alternative to WhatsApp for connecting with your contacts. You can access additional features, especially after subscribing to Telegram Premium. But while using the app, has it ever happened that your recently added contacts stopped showing in Telegram?
This is something that users come across, which leads to restricting conversations with their contacts. If you are also facing the same, this post will share a couple of working solutions to fix Telegram not syncing contacts on iPhone and Android.
1. Enable Contact Sync in Telegram App
If Telegram fails to sync contacts, you’ll need to enable the contact syncing feature in the app on your iPhone or Android. This feature is enabled by default. But you can still check and manually enable it.
Step 1: Open Telegram on your iPhone or Android.
Step 2: Tap on Settings at the bottom-right corner (iPhone).
For Android, tap the hamburger icon at the top-left corner and select Settings.
Step 3: Tap on Privacy and Security.
Step 4: Scroll down and tap the toggle next to Sync Contacts (Android).
For iPhone, scroll down to the bottom and tap on Data Settings. Then tap the toggle next to Sync Contacts.
Step 5: Return to your chats to check if the problem is solved.
2. Enable Contact Access for Telegram
The Telegram app should be allowed to access your contacts to sync them and show them in the app. So the next solution, if your newly added contacts are not showing in Telegram, is to enable contact syncing.
On iPhone
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Telegram.
Step 3: Tap the toggle next to Contacts to enable access.
Step 4: Close the Settings app and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
On Android
Step 1: Long-press the Telegram app icon and tap on App Info.
Step 2: Select Permissions.
Step 3: Tap on Contacts.
Step 4: Tap on Allow.
Step 5: Close App Info and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
3. Check Your Internet Connection
We suggest checking the strength of your internet connection. You can try switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi to speed up the contact syncing process. If you use Telegram on your Android phone, we suggest disabling Unrestricted Data Usage for Telegram while your phone is in Data Saver mode.
Step 1: Long-press the Telegram app icon and tap on App Info.
Step 2: Scroll down and select Mobile Data and Wi-Fi.
Step 3: Tap the toggle next to Unrestricted Data Usage to enable the feature.
Step 4: Close App Info and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.

4. Force Quit and Relaunch Telegram
A basic yet effective solution to sync your contacts is to force quit and relaunch the Telegram app on iPhone and Android.
On iPhone
Step 1: On the home screen of your iPhone, swipe up and hold to reveal the background app windows.
Step 2: Look for the Telegram app and swipe up to remove it.
Step 3: Relaunch Telegram and check if the problem is solved.
On Android
Step 1: Long-press the Telegram app icon and tap on App Info.
Step 2: Select Force Stop.
Step 3: Tap on Ok to confirm.
Step 4: Close App Info and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
5. Clear Telegram App Cache
The App Cache saves all your app preferences and login information. But with time, large amounts of cached data can lead to the malfunctioning of the app. In the case of Telegram, you can try clearing its App Cache on your Android and iPhone.
On iPhone
Step 1: Open Telegram on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on Settings at the bottom-right corner.
Step 3: Tap on Data and Storage.
Step 4: Select Storage Usage.
Step 5: Tap on Clear Telegram Cache.
Step 6: Return to Chats, which may take a while to load and check if the problem is solved.
On Android
Step 1: Long-press the Telegram app icon and tap on App Info.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Storage and Cache.
Step 3: Tap on Clear Cache.
Step 4: Close App Info and open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
6. Update Telegram App
If none of the solutions work, update the version of Telegram on your iPhone or Android. You can use the following links.
