The importance of Kindle is well known amongst a lot of bibliophiles. For those who prefer reading ebooks, Kindle offers several features like the ability to use a Dictionary. Another great Kindle feature is letting readers save the highlights of whatever they find the most useful while reading their e books – almost like bookmarking text for later reference.

You can mark the highlights in your ebooks and email them for further reference. But some users complain that their Kindle device is not saving highlights or they have disappeared. If you are facing the same issue, here are some troubleshooting methods to fix Kindle not saving highlights. These solutions apple to Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis, and Kindle Scribe.
1. Enable Device Syncing
If the highlights are not working on your Kindle, check if you did enable device syncing. You need to check and enable Whispersync for your Kindle with your Amazon account. Whispersync lets you pick up where you left off while reading your ebooks on Kindle and view your highlights. You can check and enable Whispersync from your mobile or desktop.
On Mobile
Step 1: Open the Amazon app on your iPhone or Android phone.

Step 2: Tap the profile icon at the bottom on the Menu bar.

Step 3: Select Your Account.

Step 4: Tap on Content and Devices.

Step 5: Tap the Preferences tab at the top.

Step 6: Tap the arrow icon to expand Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings).

Step 7: Check if the feature is turned on. If not, tap on the option and turn it on.

On Desktop
Step 1: Open the Amazon website in a web browser on your computer.
Step 2: Sign in to your Amazon account.
Step 3: Click on the Accounts & Lists at the top-right corner.

Step 4: Select ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ from the context menu.

Step 5: Click the Preferences tab at the top.

Step 6: Scroll down and click on Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings).

Step 7: Check if this feature is turned on.

After that, check on your Kindle to see if the problem is solved.
2. Check Your Email Address
It sounds pronounced but can overshadow you while saving your highlights on Kindle. Ensure that you have entered the correct email address to receive a summary of your Kindle highlights.
3. Check Kindle Cloud Reader (KCR)
If your highlights are still not showing up on Kindle, you can check if they have synced with your Amazon account using the Kindle Cloud Reader. This is just a web version of Kindle for accessing your E-books, notes, and highlights. You can check and confirm whether your highlights have been saved.
Step 1: Open the Amazon website in a web browser on your computer.
Step 2: Sign in to your Amazon account.
Step 3: Click on Notes and Highlights from the left menu.

Step 4: You can check if your highlights have been saved as per the book.
You can click on Options next to the highlight and choose to see it on your Kindle.

4. Update Your Kindle
If you cannot recover your highlights, we suggest updating the software version on your Kindle device. Here’s how.
Step 1: On your Kindle homepage, tap the down-facing arrow icon.

Step 2: Tap on All Settings.

Step 3: Tap the three dots at the top-right corner.

Step 4: Select Update Your Kindle.

If the option of Update Your Kindle is greyed out, you are already using the latest software version.
5. Register Your Kindle Again
If your Kindle device is still not saving highlights, the last resort is to re-register your Kindle with your Amazon account. Do note that you will have to download all your E-books again to your Kindle device after following these steps.
Step 1: On your Kindle home screen, tap the down-facing arrow icon.

Step 2: Tap on All Settings.
Step 3: Select Your Account.

Step 4: Tap on Deregister Device.

Step 5: Tap on Deregister again to confirm.

Step 6: Register your Kindle again and check if the problem is solved.
