If you share an Amazon account or computer with someone else, you might not always want them to see everything you search online. Whether you’re shopping for something personal or simply planning a surprise, it’s smarter to clear your Amazon search history.
Amazon search and browsing history (which products did you check out) are useful for future recommendations. However, you might want to delete it to maintain privacy or stop getting suggestions for certain items. Whatever your reasons, here’s how to clear your search history on the Amazon shopping app.
Delete Amazon Search and Browsing History From Web
Search history is different from the browsing history. The former is what products/categories you searched for, while the latter is what products you browsed through while shopping. Let’s show you how to clear both.
How to Delete Amazon Search History
Step 1: Go to the Amazon website and log in to your account.
Step 2: Click the search bar and your last search/searches will show up in suggestions.
Step 3: Click the X icon next to the search you want to delete.
Note: The search history for the web and Amazon mobile app will be different. So, if you don’t find the particular search query you’re looking for, try the app (steps mentioned in the later sections of the article).
How to Delete Amazon Browsing History
Well, you can either remove individual items (so no one gets suspicious) or clear all items from your Amazon search history. Here’s how.

Step 3: To remove an individual item, click Remove from view from under the item.

Step 5: From the menu, select ‘Remove all items from view’.
Alternatively, you can hover the mouse over the Browsing History button to view your most recent viewing history. Scroll to the orange dot under the item you want to remove and click the X icon that appears.
Note: Additionally, you can view your Amazon browsing history, by clicking Accounts & Lists from the top bar → Your Account → scroll down to Your Browsing History and click ‘View or edit your browsing history’.

Well, this is how you can see recently viewed on the Amazon app and manage the items in the list. However, the app also boasts a Keep shopping for a section that can reveal your search or browsing history, so let’s manage that as well.

How to Manage Your Recommendations List
While we are at it, why not be thorough? There’s a chance that the products you’ve purchased or browsed through might end up in Amazon’s recommendation list. And not just for hiding purposes, this will improve your overall shopping experience as well. Here’s how to do it:
Delete Products From Your Recommendations List On Web
Step 1: Open Amazon → click Accounts & Lists → Your Recommendations.
Step 2: You’ll see several items under ‘Top Picks for you’. Here, click the item you want to remove from the list.
Step 3: Next up, click Remove this recommendation.

Improve Your Amazon Recommendations
Additionally, you can also instruct Amazon not to include certain product categories in your recommendations. However, this can just happen on the web as the mobile app doesn’t support the feature. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Go to Your Recommendations (as shown above).
Step 2: Click Improve Your Recommendations from the options bar at the top.
Step 3: On this page, Toggle on/off the products that you want or don’t want recommendations for.
Tip: If you want to retrieve a deleted product from your recommendations list, click Not Interested from this page and then select OK to show.
