Android offers a plethora of messaging apps if you don’t like the default one. Many users switch to third-party SMS apps so that they can set a custom tone for individual contacts. However, you don’t need to install any third-party app to do that. The setting is built-in on most Android phones. The only caveat is that it’s slightly buried, and you need to look for it. So that’s what we will help you with.
Assigning a different messaging tone for individual contacts helps identify the person who sent the message without looking at or touching your phone. It comes handy when you use the SMS app for messaging different kinds of people, such as your friends, acquaintances, or co-workers. You know who has messaged just by the notification tone of the message.
Let’s check how to set a custom message notification tone for contacts on Android phones from Google, Samsung, and OnePlus.
