Have you been wondering whether WhatsApp works on Apple Watch? Well, the answer is both yes and no. Basically, WhatsApp doesn’t have an official app for Apple Watch. So, you will have to rely on workarounds to use WhatsApp on Apple Watch.
There are two ways to get WhatsApp on your watch. You can either use the native method of simply receiving WhatsApp notifications on the watch or use a third-party app to use the modified web version of WhatsApp on the Apple Watch. Let’s check both methods in detail.
Method 1: Get WhatsApp Messages on Apple Watch
In this method, you will only be able to receive and view new WhatsApp message notifications on your Apple Watch. You cannot start a new message, view older messages, or view images. However, you can reply to new messages either by voice typing, through suggested replies, or by scribbling the reply.
Follow the steps given below to receive WhatsApp notifications on your Watch.
1. Enable WhatsApp Notifications
Step 1: After pairing your Apple Watch with your iPhone, open Settings on your iPhone.
Step 2: Go to WhatsApp.
Step 3: Select Notifications and enable the toggle next to Allow notifications. Also, make sure the Lock Screen and Notification Center options are checked under the Alerts section.

Method 2: Using Third-Party WhatsApp Apps for Apple Watch
If you want to use most functions of WhatsApp on your Apple Watch, you can take the help of third-party apps. One of the best third-party apps is the WatchChat 2 app, which is a free app based on the multiple devices feature of WhatsApp. It overcomes all the limitations of the above method and allows you to create new messages, send voice messages, watch videos, see status updates from people, view stickers, type replies, and much more.
Let’s check the steps to get WhatsApp on Apple Watch using the WatchChat 2 app.
Step 1: Install the WatchChat 2 app on your iPhone. After installation, make sure that the WatchChat 2 app shows on your watch.
Note: If WatchChat 2 doesn’t show up on your watch, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap on WatchChat. Enable the toggle next to the ‘Show app on Apple Watch’.
Step 2: Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
Step 3: Tap on Settings at the bottom followed by Linked devices.
Step 4: Tap on the ‘Link a Device’ button. The Camera preview screen will show up.
Step 5: Now, open WatchChat 2 app on your Apple Watch. A QR code will show up. Scan this QR code using the camera preview of step 4.
Step 6: Wait for a few seconds until WhatsApp links the WatchChat 2 app. Once that happens, you will see the WhatsApp chats on your Apple Watch. Tap on any chat to view its messages.
Use the Keyboard or the Reply icon to reply or send a new message. You can also tap on the Microphone icon to send a voice message.
