Basic Fixes
- Check device support: The first thing you need to be sure of is that your smart TV or streaming device supports Miracast or is certified by the DLNA or Digital Living Network Alliance.
- Connect to the same Wi-Fi network: The Cast Media to Device feature works only between devices that are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Disable VPN: A VPN connection lets you access content unavailable in your region. But it can prevent screen casting from working properly in Microsoft Edge.
- Remove extensions: Uninstall those extensions from Microsoft Edge that you don’t require anymore or they have stopped receiving updates.
- Force quit and relaunch Edge: This will give the browser a fresh start if it has been running in the background for quite some time.
- Update Edge browser: Open Settings > About Microsoft Edge > Install the update.
Fix 1: Enable Allow All Sites to Initiate Mirroring
This is a feature on the Edge browser that needs to be enabled on the backend to use the feature. The same was suggested on a Microsoft forum as well.
Step 1: Visit the Flags webpage in the Microsoft Edge browser by opening a new tab.
Step 2: Use the dropdown menu to enable the feature of Allow all sites to initiate mirroring.

Fix 2: Clear Edge Browser Cache
If the ‘Cast Media to Device’ option is still not working in Microsoft Edge, you can try clearing the browser cache on your Mac or Windows PC. This will remove all the browser preferences and restore all settings to default. Check out how to clear cache and cookies in Microsoft Edge.
Fix 3: Reset All Settings
As the name suggests, this will reset all settings to default on your Edge browser version.
Open Edge > Settings > Reset Settings > Reset settings to their default values > Reset.

Tip: The browser offers a Sidebar with different options like Windows Copilot, Edge Drop, Skype, OneNote, and more. You can refer to our post to learn how to customize the sidebar in Microsoft Edge.
