Basic Fixes
- Switch to 5G: Navigation requires strong internet connectivity at all times. So we suggest switching to 5G on your iPhone.
- Enable background app refresh: Open Settings > Maps > Enable Background App Refresh.
- Disable Low Power Mode: Open Settings > Battery > Disable Low Power Mode.
- Force quit and relaunch Maps: This will give the app a fresh start on your iPhone if it has been running for quite some time in the background.
- Update iOS to update the Maps app: Open Settings > General > Software Update and then install the update if one is available.
Fix 1: Enable Speed Limit Feature
Firstly, you’ll need to check whether the feature to show Speed Limit is enabled for Apple Maps. The feature shows up depending on your mode of travel. More importantly, you must check if this feature is available for your country.
Step 1: Open Settings > Maps > Select your mode of travel under Directions.
Step 2: Tap the toggle next to Speed Limit to enable the feature.

Fix 2: Enable Motion Calibration and Distance
The speedometer in Apple Maps will show you the correct speed only after receiving your accurate location. So you need to check the Location settings on your iPhone and for Apple Maps.
Step 1: Open Settings > Privacy and Security > Location Services.
Step 2: Enable Location Services.
Step 3: Scroll down and then select Maps.
Step 4: Ensure that Location access is allowed at least while using the app. We also suggest turning on Precise Location.

Step 5: Go back, scroll down to the bottom, and select System Services.
Step 6: Tap the toggle next to Motion Calibration and Distance.

Tip: Refer to our post if Location Services are not working on your iPhone.
Fix 3: Reset Privacy and Location Settings
You can reset the settings for location preferences on your iPhone. Following the steps will bring your setting to default.
Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location and Privacy.

Tip: Learn the fixes if Apple Maps is not showing the direction arrow on your iPhone.
