Basic Fixes
- Check if the link is working: If the links you shared with your contact are not working, you should check whether the link is correct.
- Check internet speed: Ensure that you have good internet speeds to open the URL shared on WhatsApp.
- Force quit and relaunch: This will give the app a fresh start on your device.
- Update WhatsApp: Install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone to get rid of bugs.
Fix 1: Enable External Link Permissions on Android
You need to check and enable access for opening external links on your Android phone. Here’s how.
Step 1: Long-press the WhatsApp app icon and then tap on App Info.
Step 2: Tap on Open By Default. Then, tap the toggle next to Open Supported Links to enable the feature.


Fix 2: Enable or Disable Link Previews
You can try enabling or disabling and then re-enabling the Link Previews feature in WhatsApp. Basically, you can try tinkering with this feature and see if the problem gets solved.
Open WhatsApp > Settings > Privacy > Advanced > tap the toggle next to Disable Link Previews.


Fix 3: Clear WhatsApp Cache
To improve overall usage and performance, WhatsApp collects the Cache data over a while on your iPhone and Android. But, the Cache data can get corrupted leading to issues like links not opening in WhatsApp. We suggest clearing the WhatsApp Cache and checking if this solves the issue. Fix 4: Workaround: Copy Link and Open in a Browser
If none of the solutions work, we suggest copying the link and pasting it in the web browser on your phone.
Open WhatsApp > long-press the link to copy it > open the web browser app and then paste it.
