How to Fix X (Twitter) Search Not Working on Phone

Quick Fixes
  • Update the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Correct device’s date and time.
  • Clear the X (Twitter) cache.

Common Fixes

  • Update the app – Updating X (Twitter) fixes most app anomalies, such as the broken search feature. Search X in Google Play Store or Apple App Store and tap Update.
  • Use Advanced Search – If X (Twitter) search isn’t functioning accurately, switch to its Advanced Search feature to include every possible filter.
  • Sign out and reauthenticate account – Tap your profile icon in the top-left, select Settings and privacy under Settings & Support, and select Your Account. Further, select Account information and tap Log out.
  • Disable VPN – Disconnect the active connection from the VPN app and reload X (Twitter).
  • Check server outage – Visit Downdetector to check the current server status.

Fix 1: Force Close and Reopen X (Twitter)

Force-closing and restarting the X (Twitter) app resolves most glitches preventing you from using its search functionality.

On Android: Long-tap the X (Twitter) icon > select App info > tap Force Stop. Reopen the app and initiate a new search.

On iPhone: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or press the Home Screen button twice on old models) to open the app switcher. Swipe upwards on the X (Twitter) card to close it and reopen the app to search afresh.

Fix 2: Correct Device Date and Time

If your phone has an incorrect date and time, it will struggle to communicate with X (Twitter) servers to fetch search results. Configuring the date and time settings to sync automatically should fix it.

On Android: Open System settings > select Date and time > toggle on Set time automatically.

On iPhone: Open General settings > tap Date & Time > toggle on Set Automatically.

Fix 3: Clear X (Twitter) App Cache

A corrupted app cache is a common culprit behind the search feature not working properly in X (Twitter). Clearing the app cache should instantly restore normalcy.

On Android: Long-tap the X (Twitter) app icon to access App info > select Storage > tap Clear cache.

On iPhone: iOS doesn’t allow clearing the app cache manually. Long-tap the X (Twitter) icon to Remove App > select Delete App to confirm your action. Next, reinstall it from the App Store > sign in with your credentials.
