Screen Mirroring Requirements and Limitations for Fire TV Stick
Before starting, let us look at certain conditions that you might need to meet when screen mirroring your device to your Fire TV Stick:
- Not all Fire TV Stick devices support screen mirroring. To check, long-press the Home button on your Fire TV Stick remote and locate the Mirroring option from the menu options.
- Your Android device must be running Android OS 4.2 (Jelly Bean) or higher to screen mirror with your Fire TV Stick successfully. Additionally, your Android phone must also support Miracast.
- If you’re using a Windows device, ensure it supports Wireless Display (WiDi).
- As of now, there are no native provisions to screen mirror iOS and macOS devices to your Fire TV Stick.
- Ensure your screen mirroring device and Fire TV Stick are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection before proceeding.
- Your connection might get interrupted if there is an object between your device and the Fire TV Stick. So, remove any such thing and move closer before trying again.
Basic Fixes:
- Enable Screen Mirroring on Fire TV Stick: Power on your Fire TV Stick and long-press the Home button on the remote. Here, select Mirroring and ensure screen mirroring is enabled. Then, pair or re-pair your device with the Fire TV Stick.
- Move close to your Fire TV Stick device: Amazon recommends the proximity between your device and the Fire TV Stick should be within 30 feet (approx. 10 meters). So, if you are more than 10 meters away from the Fire TV Stick, move closer and try mirroring the device again.
- Check your internet connection: Use the Settings menu on your Fire TV Stick to check your current internet connection. If the connection strength is weak, move closer to the modem or connect to a different network connection before trying again.
- Restart your Fire TV Stick: If your Amazon Fire TV Stick’s mirroring functionality doesn’t work or repeatedly freezes, restart it and try connecting your device again.
- Check for Fire TV Stick software update: Software bugs can also cause screen mirroring to not work properly on your Fire TV Stick. So, check and install the latest FireOS updates. Once done, reattempt the screen mirroring connection.
Fix 1: Clear the App Cache on Fire TV Stick
Over time, most apps collect cache to speed up processes. But this app cache can hog the storage space, slowing down other Fire TV Stick functions. So, clear the cache to free up Fire TV Stick storage space and use the screen mirroring feature again. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open the Settings menu on your Fire TV Stick and select Applications.

Step 2: Here, select Manage Installed Applications.

Step 3: From the list of apps, select the relevant one.

Step 4: Select Clear cache.

Now, go back to the app list screen and repeat the above steps to clear the cache for other apps on your Fire TV Stick.
Fix 2: Uninstall Excess Apps on Fire TV Stick
Your Fire TV Stick might not process the screen mirroring request if it doesn’t have sufficient storage space. So, use the uninstall options to delete apps that are no longer required from your Fire TV Stick. This will help free up space on your Fire TV Stick. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Open Settings > select Applications.
Step 2: Then, select Manage Installed Applications.
Step 3: Now, select the app you wish to delete.

Step 4: Select Uninstall. If prompted, select Uninstall again to finish the process. Repeat these steps to uninstall any other apps from your Fire TV Stick.

Fix 3: Reset Your Fire TV Stick
Resetting your Fire TV Stick will remove any apps or settings that cause screen mirroring to not work properly. However, it will also delete all account information, apps, etc., from your Fire TV Stick and reset it to factory settings. Follow the below steps to proceed.
Step 1: Open your Fire TV Stick and select Settings. Select My Fire TV.

Step 2: Here, select Reset to Factory Defaults.

Step 3: When prompted, select Reset to confirm.

Now wait for your Fire TV Stick device to finish resetting. Once it has done so, set it up and try using screen mirroring again.
