Microsoft’s AI assistant – Copilot – is now part of all major 365 apps, including PowerPoint, and it brings a whole host of helpful AI-powered features to streamline your work or personal projects. With it, you can instantaneously make entire presentations or individual slides through AI, generate summaries, and more.

Here’s how to use Copilot in PowerPoint.

Making entire presentations from scratch is often time-consuming. Copilot can do all that work in a fraction of the time it would take a human user. Just let it know the theme and subject of your desired presentation, and get one made for you. Here’s how.

Step 1. Start a new presentation in PowerPoint.

Step 2. Click the “Copilot” button, found in the “Home” tab on the ribbon.

Step 3. Click on “Create a presentation about,” and then finish that prompt with some info about your desired result. Note that the more detailed your prompt is, the better result you’ll get. So, if you have something very specific in mind, make sure to include detailed information in the prompt.

Step 4. Hit the “Send” button and wait while Copilot creates your presentation. You can then continue the chat with additional prompts if you want Copilot to edit anything or try again.

How to Use Copilot to Generate Presentations from Files

With Copilot, you’re not only limited to creating presentations from text prompts – it’s also able to make presentations from existing files.

Step 1. Open a new presentation and click the “Copilot” button in the “Home” tab.

Step 2. Select “Create presentation from file” and browse your device’s folders and drives for the file you want to use. You can use Word documents or PDFs.

Step 3. Click “Send” and wait while Copilot uses your file to formulate a presentation.

How to Use Copilot to Generate Presentations with Templates

To gain even more control over Copilot-generated PowerPoints, you can ask it to use a specific custom format or template.

Step 1. Open PowerPoint and select to make a new presentation using your desired template.

Step 2. Click “Copilot” in the ribbon and select “Create a presentation about.”

Step 3. Complete the prompt with detailed information about the type of presentation you want, and hit “Send.” Copilot will create a presentation according to your needs, using the exact template you loaded in earlier.

How to Use Copilot to Add Slides

Copilot in PowerPoint can also create individual slides to help flesh out your existing presentations. Again, this is quick and easy.

Step 1. Open the presentation you want to extend and click on “Copilot” from the ribbon.

Step 2. Select “Add a slide about” and then complete the prompt with whatever you want your slide to discuss. Remember – the more detail, the better.

Step 3. Hit “Send” and wait a moment while Copilot makes the slide.

Copilot can also sum up your presentations if, for example, you want to tell someone what they’re about in a quick paragraph or if you want to get an idea of a presentation’s contents without looking through every slide.

Step 1. Click “Copilot” in the “Home” tab of the ribbon.

Step 2. Type “Summarize this presentation” as a prompt and hit “Send.”

How to Use Copilot to Rewrite Text

Copilot is also useful as a writing aid, as it can help you improve the flow and clarity of your text, remove typos and grammatical mistakes, and clean up your slides.

Step 1. Click the textbox with the text you want to edit, and press the “Copilot” button.

Step 2. Choose any of the three options that appear: “Auto-rewrite,” “Condense,” or “Make professional.”

Step 3. Check out Copilot’s new and improved text. Then click “Keep it” if you’re happy or hit the “Regenerate” button to try again. You can also hit “Undo” to return to the original version.
