As ads on YouTube have become more and more ubiquitous, so too have the ways of dodging them. Ad blockers – including perhaps the most popular, aptly named AdBlock – play a big part in the modern browsing experience, keeping users free from spam and safe from scams.
That said, ads are also a major source of many sites’ revenue, and this includes YouTube. The platform’s most recent crackdown on ad blockers isn’t their first, but it is for many users. If you’re wondering just how to bypass this frustrating countermeasure, this article will offer a few solutions.
Our Tips on How to Disable AdBlock Prevention on YouTube

AdBlock prevention is frustrating. That’s why we’ve assembled several different ways (some more technically demanding than others) for how to disable anti-AdBlock on YouTube to negate the ad blocker warning and get back to the fun:
Disable JavaScript
Many AdBlock prevention tools use JavaScript to detect and counter ad blockers on their sites. This includes YouTube, although disabling JavaScript may disrupt some functionality of the site. Depending on your browser, you can bypass the popup while keeping your ad blocker running. Here’s how:
On Google Chrome:
1. In the Search Bar, copy the YouTube URL.
2. Click the “More” button (the three dots) in the top right of the browser and select “Settings.”

3. In the new window that pops up, choose “Privacy & Security” from the sidebar.
4. Scroll down to “Site Settings” in the sub menu.

5. In the new menu, navigate to “JavaScript.”

6. Click the “Add” button next to “Not allowed to use JavaScript” and add the YouTube URL to the list.

7. Click “Add,” and once done you should be able to use YouTube on Chrome without the popup.

For Microsoft Edge, the process is quite similar:
1. Copy the YouTube URL and open Settings via the “More” button.
2. Choose “Cookies and site permissions” from the Settings sidebar.

3. Click “All permissions” from the submenu.
4. Scroll down to “JavaScript” and click it.

5. Click the “Add” button next to “Block” and paste the YouTube URL into the popup. Hit the “Add” button once done.

Firefox comes with its own extension (Disable JavaScript) to allow you to quickly disable it on any website you choose.
Extensions and Script Managers
There are many people out there who are not fans of AdBlock prevention. Some of them are developers. Most browsers have a variety of third-party extensions and scripts to help bypass YouTube’s latest ad-blocking methods. Aside from installed extensions, you can also use tools like Tampermonkey to install and run custom script managers. Better yet, most are free and are constantly updated.
Use the App
The YouTube app bypasses AdBlock prevention as ads are enabled by default. But this is not the case with a YouTube Premium subscription which lets you bypass ads. Unfortunately, on iPhone or Android devices, YouTube ads can never be fully disabled. Thankfully, there is a workaround.
If using an ad blocker on your phone, you can pause the ad currently running and hit the “Share” button. Next, choose your ad blocker from the list of apps and the video will remain ad-free. It’s a bit more labor-intensive, but for longer videos, it’s worth the effort.
Update or Upgrade Your Adblocker
If YouTube is suddenly able to bypass your ad blocker to show you ads, you can be sure the maker of your ad blocker is aware of this too. Most of the widely used ad blocker apps and extensions are constantly being updated to respond to ad block prevention methods like YouTube. Paid ad blockers and VPNs often have more of a financial incentive to respond to these threats than free tools.
If you’re suddenly being blocked from preventing ads by YouTube, try updating your ad blocker or consider switching to a more robust one.
Try Brave
Because Google owns YouTube, many Chrome users have particular trouble with ad block prevention. Brave is a web browser that comes with its own ad blocker baked in. That means it can easily avoid detection by YouTube. The browser is free to use and easy to download to both your PC and your smartphone.
Sign Up for the App
This might seem defeatist to some, but signing up for YouTube Premium ensures that you’ll never have to sit through another ad or worry about installing an ad blocker for YouTube again. You’ll also receive a two-month free trial period, and get to choose from a variety of payment plans, including family and student discounts.
