Basic Fixes
- Check the Telegram server status: Visit Downdetector to check for an active Telegram server outage.
- Quit the Telegram Desktop app and reopen it: Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc shortcut to open the Task Manager, right-click Telegram Desktop, and select End task. Reopen the Telegram Desktop app.
- Disconnect VPN: Open your VPN app and click Disconnect to disable the active connection. Retry opening the Telegram app.
- Update Windows 11: Press the Windows + I shortcut to open Settings, select Windows Update from the left sidebar, and install available system updates.
Fix 1: Repair or Reset the Telegram Desktop App
The Telegram Desktop app may crash abruptly on Windows 11 if its component got corrupt due to a buggy update. Repair or reset it from Windows Settings to restore its normal functioning.
Step 1: Press the Windows key, search Telegram Desktop, and right-click it to open its App settings.
Step 2: Select Repair to repair the app. If the issue persists, click Reset to restore the app to its default values.
Fix 2: Update or Reinstall Telegram Desktop
If you haven’t updated the Telegram Desktop app for a long time, it may crash due to an obsolete version. Head to the Microsoft Store to update it. Alternatively, you can reinstall it to start afresh.
Step 1: Open the Microsoft Store, search Telegram Desktop, and click Update.
Step 2: To reinstall the app, open Windows Settings using the Windows + I shortcut, select Apps from the sidebar, and click Installed apps.
Step 3: Search Telegram Desktop, click its three-dot menu, and select Uninstall. Head to the Microsoft Store to install and configure it again.
