How To Get Your iPhone Out of Recovery Mode

Ads by Google

Exit Recovery ModeSometimes, when trying to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you might run into some unexpected errors that can leave your device stuck in either DFU or Recovery mode. The same can happen if you intentionally put your device in Recovery mode to solve an issue but for some reason then it stops responding just then.

If this ever happened to you and you want to know what to do to get your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch out of Recovery mode, you’ve come to the right place.

Follow the steps below to get your iPhone or other iOS device out of Recovery mode.

Step 1: Download the TinyUmbrella application. It is available for both the Mac and Windows PCs. According to the developer, the application supports even iOS 6, so any iOS device owner should be able to use it.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone in Recovery mode to your Mac or PC using its USB cable.

Step 3: Open TinyUmbrella and give it a few seconds until it recognizes your iPhone or other iOS device in Recovery mode.

Tiny Umbrella

Step 4: Once your iOS device in Recovery mode is recognized by TinyUmbrella, click on the button Exit Recovery located at the top right of TinyUmbrella’s window.

Exit Recovery mode

That’s it. Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch should be booting normally now and be ready to use in a few seconds.

Note: Also, when you opened TinyUmbrella, you should have noticed that the application also allows you to enter Recovery mode if needed. To enable this mode, simply click on the appropriate button.

If you have any other problems using this app or have some thoughts on it that you would like to share with us, head for the comments and let us know.

If I click Exit Recovery Mode it just goes back to the itunes restore icon. What am I doing wrong? I have a Windows 7 Computer and an iPod Touch 4G.

    • http://www.guidingtech.com/ Alvaro Bernedo

Something odd is happening with some users. But there is also Recboot, which performs almost the same function. Take a look at it and try it if you want.

      • Jeff

My iPod works now. Recboot didn’t work. I put my device in DFU mode and clicked on iTunes and clicked Restore.

  • Gibbo70

    Hi Alvaro,
I have a jailbroken (absinthe 2.04) 3GS that is stuck in recovery mode. Tiny Umbrella wont get it out, even in DFU mode using FIX RECOVERY. I tried RecBoot, but same problem, its like an endless loop. Any ideas how to fix the problem ?
I could just do a restore with Itunes, but then it will update to ios 6.01 and I wont be able to Jailbreak. I would like to stay on ios 5.1.1 until an untethered Jailbreak is available for ios 6.01.
Any help would be much appreciated as i’m stuck without a phone atm…

    Regards, Gibbo

  • Duke

HELP! Tried to update my wife’s iphone 4 from 5.1 to 6.01 using itunes. Got almost to end and unexpected error popped up. No stuck with recovery screen on phone. Has all her calendars, kid’s pics, etc. I did a backup before doing this. Tried Tiny Umbrella to get out but doesn’t work – gets stuck in loop. Can’t find RecBoot link that works. If I restore thru itunes, can I load her backup stuff or is it gone? Save the marriage please.

    • http://www.guidingtech.com/ Alvaro Bernedo

Hi Duke. If you backed up before updating then everything should be fine. Just restore using iTunes and choose the backup you just made when prompted.

      • Duke

Worked! Thanks. Marriage is safe till I do something else.

    • http://www.guidingtech.com/ Alvaro Bernedo

This application simply helps you exit recovery mode and will not affect any of your iPhone’s content or settings.

On the left hand side of my screen i see an area that says “Recovery Devices” my iphone shows up as a number, which is the same number down in the ECID (Dec): section, however whenever I click “Exit Recovery” my phone exits and then automatically reenters and i’m just stuck w/ the iTunes pic and the usb on the screen. The number my device is given in “Recovery Devices”shows up again under the first one…any clues on how to fix?

After clicking “Exit Recovery”, the iPhone screen does change to the just-an-apple-in-the-middle startup screen, but a second later reverts to the white-USB-cable-pointing-at-the-iTunes-logo screen. And nothing has changed. Any suggestions?

    • http://www.facebook.com/stuart.roberts.733 Stuart Roberts

By trial and error i got it to work, and it got my iphone 4s out of recovery mode that it had been stuck in for 2 days. itunes was no use at all.

When the TinyUmbrella window opens it will show your phone on the left, as a connected device. It gives it a number.

Click on that number and then you will be able to click on the ‘Exit Recovery’ button.

Once you do that, wait till the Apple logo appears on your phone, and immediately disconnect the phone from the computer.

That’s what worked for me. As usual, you do all this stuff at your own risk – I can’t guarantee it will work for you.

      • satya

thanx buddy it worked for me, thanx a million….

    • bubbleuk

i keep getting the same problem, followed all the steps and my phone just constantly has the apple logo flashing on and off in the middle of the screen.

FANTASTIC!! It worked!!! My iPhone 3gs bricked when i tried to “fix it from 06.15.00 baseband cause i wanted to be able to upgrade the iOS. So it went to 5.13.04 baseband. I thought i cud freely upgrade now and so tried to jump to iOS 6.0.1. When i got back home, left the upgrade running, i met a bricked phone.

  • marvin

i didnt discover my phone ?? what should i do ?

  • Jared

Ive already tried recboot too get my ipod out of recovery mode but it didnt work, all it did was take it off the “USB going into iTunes symbol” and show the apple sign… Then it goes black for one second and back on the the recovery picture….
If Tiny umbrella does not work I’m gonna explode because I make songs on my ipod using music studio plus I’ve made a lot of lyrics on the Notes app..I’m gonna loose everything… My beats… My lyrics… My progress on a song…

I’m desperate too get get out of revovery mode without having too restore and loose all my data

I’m gonna try tiny umbrella too see if works, I like how on every website I go too none of the websites say “recovery mode can happen because your ipod randomly did it”….. Because that’s what happen too me…I’m not jailbrokej and wasn’t trying too restore or upgrade when this happened…. I think it has something too do with using up all my memory because I couldn’t even take one picture or download one song…. I pray too god tiny umbrella works…
