With millions of Mi Bands sold in the last few years, Xiaomi has revolutionized the affordable wearable segment. The Xioami Mi Band 3 is the company's latest upgrade. Staying true to its legacy, it too boasts of some incredible features like an OLED panel, water resistance capacity, and a sizeable battery — all for less than $35. So, if you are someone who recently bought this fitness tracker, and wants to get the most out of it, I have some good news for you.
I've extensively used the Mi Band 3 and gone through its companion app Mi Fit with a fine-tooth comb. Based on that, I have compiled a list of the best Xiaomi Mi Band 3 tips and tricks for you. Let's jump straight in.
1. Turn the Off Screen While Sleeping
The 'Raise the wrist' option is one of the handiest features of the Mi Band 3. It skips past the redundant task of pressing the touch button every time you want to check the time. However, the slightest hand movement activates the screen which can raise you from your slumber. This functionality can get quite annoying if you are monitoring your sleep, especially if you are a light sleeper like me. Besides, it also hogs the battery unnecessarily.
The slightest hand movement activates the screen
Thankfully, the Mi Fit Band 3 gives you the option to tweak the 'Raise the wrist' feature. Using it, you can schedule the time for this feature to get activated.
Open the Mi Fit App, go to the Profile section, and tap on the Mi Band 3 option. Now, scroll down and select the Lift wrist to view info option, and then select Scheduled.
Enter the start time and end time, and you’ll be all set. No disturbing element to steal your precious sleep.

2. Control Incoming Notifications
The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is more than just a fitness band. It lets you see call notifications, WhatsApp notifications, and messages. These features are helpful if you want to stay on top of the things without touching your phone. However, if you want it to stay as a fitness band, the good news is that it’s indeed possible.
The Mi Fit app again comes to the rescue. It lets you configure the apps which can send you notifications. To add/remove apps, go to Profile > Mi Band 3 > App alerts, and add and remove the app as per your convenience.
Pro Tip: To keep the Mi Band 3 from overestimating your steps, take it off before meetings or presentations where you’ll be moving your arms a lot.
3. Mute Your Phone
This one is a pretty nifty trick and doesn't require any setup. All you have to do is touch the panel when a call comes through, and the call will be muted.
Also, you can decline a call with a long press on the touch button.
4. Try the Smart Alarm
I am not a morning person at all and to tell you the truth I have tried different kinds of alarms — be it a solve-a-puzzle alarm or answer-how-many-lines.
But at the end of the day, they didn’t work as well as the smart alarm on the Mi Band 3. It gives a gentle buzz on your wrist to wake you up. And trust me, it works like a charm.
To set the alarm, to the device settings on the Mi Fit app > Alarm and tap on the Add button.
5. Measure Your Sleep More Accurately
Sleep tracker is one of the most sought-after features in fitness bands, and rightly so. Monitoring sleeping patterns and effectively making changes helps in getting your best sleep and give your body the needed rest. The Mi Band 3 comes with a Sleep Assistant feature which improves the accuracy of the sleep monitor. It works by analyzing your heart rate while you are asleep and later recognizes your sleep pattern based on your heart rate as well.
The Mi Band 3 comes with a Sleep Assistant feature
To turn this feature on, go to Profile > Mi Band 3 > Heart rate detection > Sleep assistant. However, turning this feature on will also consume a bit more than battery than usual.
Note: Do note that sleep monitor's data is not accurate especially if you are a restless sleeper and you move a lot during the night.
6. Be on the Move
Are you someone who needs a reminder for every other thing? If yes, let the Idle alerts feature be your new BFF. When enabled, the band will vibrate when you've been sedentary for a long time. The default timing is generally about an hour, and you can set the start time and end time for it by going into the Mi Fit app settings.
You can't customize the Idle time though, and rightly so. For instance, you have set it for more than three hours, and then the feature won't serve any purpose. The Idle Alert option is under Band alert. Tap on it and then make the necessary changes.

7. Change The Clock Faces
The default clock face lets you see the time, and that's about it. To check the step counter or the battery level, you'd have to delve deep into the Mi Band's settings, which can get on your nerves if you have to do it often. Thankfully, this band comes with two additional clock faces which display the needed information on a single screen. However, changing the clock face is a little tricky.
Tap on the touch button of your band and navigate to the More option by swiping down. When you see the More option, swipe left until you reach Screen denoted by an adorable T-shirt icon.
Now, long press on the button which will display the three clock faces. Tap on the one which you like. Voila! Your band has a new clock face!
8. Find Your Phone
Another cool feature of this tracker is that you can find the paired phone just in case you have misplaced it. To activate it, navigate to More and then swipe right until you reach the Find device option.
Long press the touch button and the paired phone will ring almost instantly. And yeah, you can thank me later.
Note: The phone needs to be in the proximity of the band for it to ring.
9. Add Some Color
This is not necessarily a trick, but as I'd like to say, it doesn't hurt to enhance the look of any product. The Mi Band 3 comes in black by default. You can switch to any of the colorful options to match your different outfits.
Amazon has a pretty decent collection of inexpensive straps for the Mi Band 3. You can check out the Funkid straps that sell for around $10.49 for a set of five straps.
Before we wrap up, let's explore a couple of Mi Band 3 FAQs.
