How to Set Parental Controls on Amazon Prime Video

Rahul Gupta

Amazon Prime Video is no longer the underdog. As a matter of fact, more people are watching videos on it as compared to Netflix. The brand's investment in fresh and original content has really paid off. Also because no other brand today offers free two-day delivery, along with a year-long video streaming subscription.

Nevertheless, with a wide variety of shows available even on mobile devices, how will you make sure that your underage kids stay away from the rated content?

Well, Prime Video has some clever parental controls baked into its services to prevent kids from watching something that only the adults enjoy watching.

Here's how you set parental controls on Amazon Prime Video.

Note: Amazon Prime Video requires a valid subscription. Make sure you have that.

1. Set Up a PIN for Your Account

The first step involves setting up a PIN for your accountThis password will be used to restrict access to any content that you as a parent don't want your kids to watch.

Step 1: To set it up, go to the Prime Video app on your phone. There, locate the hamburger menu icon at the top-left corner. Tap on that to proceed.

2

Step 2: On the following screen, select and tap on Settings.

3

Step 3: The app will now show a number of setting, locate Parental Controls and tap on it.

Note: These settings control how the Amazon Prime Video app works on your phone, please refrain from changing any settings if you do not understand its effect.
4

Step 4: From the following options, tap on Change Amazon Video PIN to proceed.

5

Step 6: Now, the app will ask you to enter your password. This is the same password as on your Amazon account.

6

Step 7Once you've logged on successfully, enter the PIN (Personal Identification Number) of your choice. Make a note of this PIN as you will need it on all devices linked to your Amazon account to play videos. Tap on the Save button once you're done.

2. Select and Protect the Content

Now that you have set up a PIN for your Amazon Prime Video account. The next step involves selecting the type of content you want to password-protect using the parental control feature.

Step 1: We will just go straight to setting up parental controls. If you want help in locating these settings, follow steps 1 to 3 as mentioned above. Under Parental Controls, you will find a setting named Viewing Restrictions. Tap on that to proceed.

9

Step 2: Tapping on Viewing Restrictions will again bring the login page up. The app will ask you to enter your password, the same password as on your Amazon account.

10

Step 3: You will get a number of options to control what type of content you want to restrict. The green dot means that your app will not ask for the PIN if you are playing any content that matches or is under that age restriction.

For anything else, you would need the PIN that you have just set up. Choose the rating as per your choice.

11

Step 4: Once you have made the choice, exit the settings.

Now, try playing any content that is rated above your selection. You should be prompted to enter your PIN, no matter where you are accessing Amazon Prime Video.
