Ever since we got hooked on Reddit, mainstream apps like Instagram and Facebook have been dropping ranks on the screen time chart. But there’s one thing that irks us. We took time curating and subscribing to a subreddit list, but only for Reddit to bombard us with recommended posts. It got annoying after a bit, but we managed to stop recommended posts on the Reddit feed.
It is easy to disable recommendations on the Reddit app, both on the web and mobile versions. Once you do it, your home screen feed will be free from recommendations. We’ll also show you how to disable notifications for these posts. Let’s begin.
Why Does Reddit Recommend Posts and Trending Subreddits
That’s enough – we’ve given Reddit enough stick even though we just got started on this article. Reddit indeed has good intentions wanting to recommend posts to you. They aren’t sponsored. They are just posts generating many views, upvotes, and interactions in your particular region. So Reddit feels you might want to not miss out on it.
You also get suggested posts based on similar interests reflected in your existing subscriptions.
But if FOMO has never been a problem for you, and you are strict on seeing Reddit posts from only the subreddits you have subscribed to, jump on to the next section.
How to Turn Off Suggested Posts on Reddit
Here’s how you can disable all the recommended posts on Reddit. We have illustrated the steps for both the mobile app and the web app.

Step 1: Open Reddit and tap on the profile picture icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Tap on Settings.
Step 3: Tap on your username under Account Settings.
Step 4: Turn off the toggle for ‘Enable home feed recommendations’.
You won’t see any recommendations of posts on your Reddit feed on the iPhone and the Android app. Let’s look into how we can do the same on the web browser.
