How to Play Spotify with Alexa on Amazon Echo

Even with intense competition in the music streaming space, Spotify remains the preferred choice among users. Amazon is leads with Echo devices and Alexa integration in the Smart Home. On the Echo devices, default music streaming service is set to Amazon Music. However, you can easily use other options like Apple Music and Spotify with Alexa. Here’s how.

In our dedicated comparison, we concluded Spotify is better than Amazon’s offering. You can make your Echo speaker tune into Spotify instead of the Amazon Prime music service. You can always link your Spotify account to Alexa and set it as the default option on mobile and web.

Link Spotify to Alexa

The ability to change the default music streaming service is available on Alexa mobile apps and the web. But first, you must link Spotify to Alexa using the iOS or Android app. Amazon offers a similar Alexa app on Android and iPhone. We will use the Alexa iOS app in the screenshots below. You can follow the same steps on the Android app and link Spotify on your Echo speaker.

Step 1: Download and install the Alexa mobile app on your Android or iPhone. Sign in with your Amazon account.

Step 2: Go to the ‘More’ tab.

Step 3: Open Settings.

Step 4: Select Music & Podcasts under Alexa Preferences.

Step 5: Select Spotify under the Services menu.

Step 6: Tap Enable to Use.

Step 7: Sign in with your Spotify account details for authorization.

You have successfully linked your Spotify account with Alexa. Now, it’s time to set it as the default option. You can do it via the app or the web.
