Most messaging apps offer a ‘last seen’ feature that lets your contacts know when was the last time you used the app. The popular chat messaging app Telegram is no different in this regard. But if you are someone who doesn’t like the idea of sharing that detail, you might want to hide your last seen status on Telegram.
Telegram provides you with a few options to limit who can view your last seen and online status. In this article, we’ll show you how to hide your last seen on Telegram for Android, iPhone, and Desktop. So, without further ado, let’s get right to it.
How to Hide Last Seen on Telegram for Android
Hiding your last seen status on Telegram for Android is quite simple. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your phone. Tap on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner and select Settings from the list.
Step 2: Under Settings, go to Privacy and Security. Then tap on Last Seen & Online.
Step 3: The settings here are pretty self-explanatory. If you wish to hide your last seen and online status from everyone but your contacts, select My Contacts. Conversely, select Everyone if you’d like to hide your last seen status from everyone.
Lastly, tap on the right checkmark at the top to save changes.
It’s important to note that you won’t be able to see the last seen status of people you’ve hidden your last seen from. Instead, you’ll see an approximate last seen value. Seems fair, right?
How to Hide Last Seen on Telegram for iPhone
If you’re using the Telegram app on your iPhone or iPad, you can follow the steps below to hide your last seen and online status.
Step 1: Open up the Telegram app on your iPhone. Tap on the gear icon at the bottom right corner to navigate to Settings.
Step 2: Go to Privacy and Security. Then tap on Last Seen & Online.
Step 3: Here, you can choose to hide your last seen from everyone or share it with your contacts only.
How to Hide Last Seen on Telegram for Desktop
If you’re using the Telegram app for Desktop, hiding your last seen is somewhat a similar experience to the mobile app. Read on to learn how.
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your PC. Tap on the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner and select Settings from the list.
Step 2: Go to Privacy and Security.
Step 3: Then select Last seen & online.
Step 4: Choose My contacts or Nobody to hide your status from a select few or everyone respectively.
Lastly, hit Save.
Now that you know how to hide last seen and online status, let’s see how you can use the exception rule in Telegram to hide your last seen from specific people.
How to Hide Your Last Seen from Specific People on Telegram
While hiding your last seen from everyone or the unknown people is pretty convenient, you can add exceptions to that setting to easily hide your last seen and online status from select few people on Telegram. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open the Telegram app and navigate to Settings.
Step 2: Go to Privacy and Security to visit Last Seen & Online.
Step 3: Say if you’ve set your Last Seen & Online status visible to everyone and you just wish to hide from a few specific people or groups, then under Add exceptions, tap on the ‘Never Share With’ option.
Step 4: Scroll through the list or use the search bar at the top to add contacts and groups to the exception list. Tap on the right checkmark to proceed.
Once added, those people will not be able to view your last seen and online status. You can revisit the exception list at any point to add or remove contacts and groups from the list.
Similarly, if you’ve chosen to share your last seen and online status with your contacts, then you can add exceptions to exclude specific people from your contacts from seeing your last seen and online status.
Because Privacy Matters
It’s great to see how Telegram allows you to customize last seen preference. While WhatsApp also lets you hide your last seen status, unlike Telegram, there’s no option to add exceptions to that setting.
