Lately, Xiaomi has been featuring quite a lot in the headlines. If we take a look at the latter half of 2017, there have been quite a few phone launches, including the one with a dual-camera setup. But, as they say, it’s not only the hardware that makes a good phone, the software also plays an equally if not more important role.
Xiaomi and software spoken in the same breath generally point towards one thing — MIUI. Considered one of the best custom user interfaces, MIUI is known for its plethora of features. With the release of MIUI 9, the excitement among Xiaomi users is at an all-time high.
However, there’s a slight catch with the MIUI 9 as it has been rolled out incrementally.
Please check this Mi Community post for info about the MIUI 9 OTA. FYI, update will take a few days for each device https://t.co/a7b4sQ4uOj pic.twitter.com/oQlfrpu6z6

This translates into the fact that even if your device is on the list for the second or third update, it might be long before you actually receive the update.

Prerequisites- Phone is adequately charged
- Official ROM has been rolled out for your phone.
Step 1: Backup Data
Since this process includes flashing a new ROM into your phone, make sure that you have taken a backup of your phone’s data. Though flashing wouldn’t remove the phone’s data, you never know when luck leaves your side (remember Murphy’s law?).
Step 2: Download ROM
Once done, head over to the Xiaomi homepage, select your phone and choose the ROM.
Clicking on Download full ROM will automatically download a zip file to your system.
Step 3: Transfer the ROM
Once the official ROM has been downloaded, transfer the zip file to the internal storage of your device.
Make sure that the phone has at least 3GB of free storage before you proceed with it.
Step 4: Time to Update!
Once everything is in place, head over to the Updater app in Tools, tap on on the three-dot menu (hamburger icon) and manually select the ROM from internal storage.
This process usually takes about 8-10 minutes to complete, after which the phone will boot with MIUI 9.
During the installation process, keep Wi-Fi or cellular network turned on for file integrity check.
File integrity is an electronic check, which inspects the state of the file to check for malicious alteration, addition, or deletion.
That’s All, Folks!
So, that’s how you can download and install MIUI 9 on Xiaomi phones without rooting.
It might seem to be a long process if you’re doing it for the first time, however, rest assured that you’ll get the MIUI 9 update before your friends. Well, some of your friends, to be precise, if you have tech-loving buddies.
