Amazon Fire TV Stick is a go-to streaming device for many users for a good reason. It compiles all the popular streaming services and offers them on the Fire TV Stick’s home screen. What if you encounter the ‘Home is currently unavailable error’ on Amazon Fire TV Stick? Read on to know how to fix that error on your Fire TV Stick.
The ‘Home is currently unavailable’ error on the Fire TV Stick spoils the mood as you set to stream a new movie or a show. If you frequently run into the issue, then it’s time to troubleshoot it once and for all.
1. Check the Internet Connection
Amazon Fire TV Stick requires a stable internet connection for a flawless experience. If your internet connection is slow or acting then you will face the home currently unavailable error on the device. Most streamin services recommend at least 10 Mbps connection for 1080p content and 20 Mbps connection for streaming 4K content.
Check the following factors that might affect the internet speed on the device.
- If other devices (connected to the same Wi-Fi network) are downloading large files, it might affect the Fire TV Stick operations.
- Is there interference between your Wi-Fi router and the Fire TV Stick? Thick walls, long distances, and wireless signals from other devices could hamper the connection.
- Does your ISP throttle video streams? Some internet service providers deliberately slow down internet speed to reduce bandwidth consumption.
2. Use a Ethernet Wired Connection
A wired connection is usually much faster than a wireless connection. The Ethernet wire doesn’t have to rely on the router. You can directly plug it into Ethernet adapter for the Amazon Fire TV Stick.
Secondly, there are no obstacles between the router and the device. Many electrical, as well as certain mechanical obstacles, tend to weaken the Wi-Fi signal.
The internet/LAN wire and the power cable from your Fire Stick power adapter will go into the Ethernet adapter. Then you have to plug a single USB cable from the Ethernet adapter into your Fire TV Stick.
A strong wired connection improves the internet speed and eliminates the chances of Home is currently unavailable issue on the user side.
3. Check the Router
Sometimes the real culprit can be the router that you are using for your Wi-Fi connection. In such cases, you won’t be able to connect to the internet on any device, let alone loading the homepage on the Fire TV Stick.
In such cases, you need to reset the router or upgrade the firmware to the latest version available. Try connecting to the internet and browse Fire Stick home comfortably.
By default, it decides to connect to the 2.4GHz band. So, connect the Fire TV Stick (especially the 4K model) to the 5GHz band on your Wi-Fi network. The practice results in Home is currently unavailable error on the Fire TV Stick.
4. Restart the Fire TV Stick

Thankfully, you can use a VPN service for Fire TV Stick and avoid that. A good VPN will stop your ISP from throttling speed, help to safeguard your personal information from hackers and unlock other region apps such as Hulu, HBO, etc.
