How to Control Xiaomi Air Purifier with Google Home and Google Assistant

The Google Home is much more than a device to set reminders or to stream songs. It has a slew of important and significant features, which undoubtedly elevates the whole smart home experience. One such impressive method is to hook it to your Xiaomi Air Purifier so that you can control the device with just your voice.

Thankfully, connecting your Google Home to the Xiaomi smart devices isn’t as complex or complicated as hooking to the Amazon Alexa. It barely takes a few taps, and your integrated smart home will be ready in minutes.

Let’s see how to get it done.

Step 1: Go to the Mi Home Services page for Google Assistant on your Android and tap on Setup.

That will take you to the Google Home Control settings page. Once in, tap on the little Plus icon at the bottom-right corner.

Please note that you’d need to sign in using the same credentials which you’ve used to sign in to your Mi Home app.

Alternatively, you can open the Google Home app and tap on Add > Set up device > Works with Google and select Mi Home from the drop-down list.

Step 2: Having signed in, you’ll see that the Home Control app has already pulled all your connected devices to the Assign rooms page.

The next step is quite apparent. You’d have to assign different rooms to these devices. To do so, tap on the said products and select the rooms. You can pick up anything from Bedroom to Office and Dining Room.

The good thing about the Google Home integration is that you can voice the commands through your phone directly if you have the ‘Hey Google’ or ‘OK Google’ wake up phrase enabled. No business of launching the Google Home app separately to do so. Now, that’s called being smart!

We have tried this on both the generations of the Mi Air Purifier and both works like a charm.

How to Edit Device Name

Given that the Google Home app takes the official device name as the calling name, it’s confusing to shape an entire sentence as a command. For instance, the device name is Mi Air Purifier 2S, you’d have to say — Hey Google, turn off Mi Air Purifier 2S. Quite the tongue twister, right?

Thankfully, you can change the name smoothly. Just open the Google Home app on your Android. You’ll see all the smart home devices neatly lined up.

Enter the new name and hit Save. Repeat the steps for all the other smart home devices. There, I saved you from a lot of crazy dose of tongue twisters!

How to Unlink Xiaomi Air Purifier from Google Home

To unlink a Xiaomi smart device, tap on a device name and tap on the Unlink Mi Home option.

Please note that doing so will remove all devices from Mi home, and not just one particular device.

Bonus Point: Enable Routines on Your Assistant

Google Assistant’s Routines are perhaps the most overlooked feature of the Google Assistant. Using them, you can string a series of actions into a single command. For instance, if you want your phone to switch to the normal mode and to tell you the day’s forecast when your morning alarm goes off, Routines make it possible.
