Samsung brings the innovative Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 just when you thought that flip phones were old. You can simply fold it in half when not in use, and then flip it open when a call comes through. Not to mention that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a powerful processor under the hood.
Naturally, if you have bought this phone (or are planning to buy one), it makes sense to explore the settings to tailor it to your needs. Besides that, factory settings are too boring.
If you want to up your Samsung Galaxy Flip 3 game, read on the best tips and tricks for it.
Check out the Samsung Z Flip 3 if you haven't already.
1. Master the Cover Screen
One of the major highlights of the Z Flip 3 is the neat cover screen at the bottom. It's this screen that lets you see the date & time when you tap on it. And if you tap on it twice, you can interact with it in other ways.
At the same time, you can access all the available widgets by swiping right to the left on the screen. Or, you can tap and hold a widget to remove it or change its position. And you can do all these without opening the phone.
And that's not all. You can see all your notifications on the cover screen. All you need to do is scroll to the left of the clock on the cover screen and then tap on the notification to expand it.
Apart from the above, you can access a few settings. For example, you can tweak the screen's brightness or change the ringer mode.
Finally, if you want to change the clock itself, head over to Settings > Cover Screen > Clock Style, and then select the style of your liking.
2. Play With the Flex Mode
Another highlight of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the Flex Mode. With it, you can split the screen into two parts, making things convenient. The good thing is that most apps on your phone use this mode by default.
For example, open the camera app on your phone, and you'll see the app split into two parts. Here, the viewfinder will be on the top, while the controls will be at the bottom. So naturally, it makes it incredibly convenient to use the phone in this mode.
Even if some apps are not fully supported, you can force the Flex Mode on certain apps. To do so, go to Settings > Advanced Features > Labs > Flex Mode Panel.
Now, make the adjustments as per your preference.
3. Bring Down the Notification Tray in Style
Unlike the other Samsung flagships, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 doesn't have an in-display fingerprint scanner. Instead, it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Apart from letting you unlock your phone easily, it also brings a couple of nifty extra features.
For instance, you can swipe down on the power button to access your notification tray. But wait before you try it. You'll have to enable it first.
To do so, navigate to Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and gestures, and then enable the toggle next to Finger sensor gestures.
Next time you hear a notification chime, just swipe up on the fingerprint scanner to open the notification tray.

4. Open Cover to Answer Calls
Nothing is satisfying than to flip open your phone to answer a call. To enable it, open the Phone app and head over to Settings > Answering and ending calls.
Tap on Open Phone to Answer, and enable the toggles as shown in the screenshot below.
5. Customize the Side Key
Apart from playing with the notification tray, Samsung also lets you customize the Side Key cum power button to some extent. For instance, you can open your favorite app when you double-press on it.
To do so, go to your phone Settings > Advanced features> Side key, and Double Press section, select Open app.
Now, all you need to do is select the app of your choice from the list.
6. Enable Dolby Atmos
It's amazing to watch videos on the huge screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. And the good part is that you can bundle that with a good sound as well. Hence, it's important to enable Dolby Atmos.
To do so, go to Settings > Sounds and Vibration > Sound quality and effects, and toggle the switch next to Dolby Atmos.
Depending on the type of content you are watching (or listening to), you can switch to one of the given modes. For now, you get to play between three modes—Music, Movie, or Voice.
7. Customize Edge Lighting
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 also brings Samsung's signature Edge Lighting to the table. And it's a charm to see the glowing edges when a notification arrives.
To enable it, head over to Settings > Notification. Here, you'll have to ensure that the pop-up style is set to Brief. Now, tap on Brief pop-up settings > Edge Lighting Style, and choose from the given effects.
Moreover, you can customize the color and play with the transparency as well.

8. Change Refresh Rate
Yes, the 120Hz refresh rate of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is buttery smooth, but it hogs the battery. Bummer, we know.
So if on some days, you don't have a power bank handy, you can tune the refresh rate down to 60Hz. Head over to Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness, and change it to Standard.
9. Customize Edge Panels
Like the Samsung Galaxy S-series lineup and the Galaxy Note lineup, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 also packs Edge Panels. And combined with the OneUI 3.1 OS, the experience is even better.
Again, accessing the Edge Panel is simple. Just swipe from the left or right side of the screen to access your most-used apps, contacts, tools, clipboard, and more.
You can tweak it further as well. For instance, you can change the default position of the handle, add/remove apps, and tweak the look of the white bar.
To do so, go to Settings > Display > Edge Panels, and play your heart out.
