4 Chrome Add-ons to Enhance Google+ Experience

Google Plus (or Google +) arrived and changed the landscape of social networking. Okay, Facebook may be the uncrowned king, but with the arrival of Google+, it can be said that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. In any case, even if you are a Facebook fan, you will appreciate that the rivalry has helped to make your social networking experience better as Facebook has been forced to unleash a slew of changes to maintain the status quo.

But if you are on Google+ and not about to jump ship in a hurry, here are four great Chrome add-ons to enhance your Google+ experience.

Extended Share for Google Plus

Google Plus Ext01

With so many social networks to manage, an extension that would allow you to cross-post is a dire need. Extended Share for Google Plus (UPDATE: This tool is not available anymore) adds a link “Share on …” to each post, thus enabling you to share the update with the social network of your choice. The extension supports – Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Tumblr, Identi, Posterous, Reddit,   Ping.fm, Hyves, Digg, Blogger, Yahoo, StumbleUpon, Technorati, Netvibes, and AddThis. Simply click on the Share on link and select the network to share your update with.

Replies and more for Google+

Google Plus Ext03

Replies and more for Google+ makes it easier to reply back to a commentator by adding a reply and reply-to-author buttons to Google+ comments. You can easily add other +mentions (i.e. contacts from your stream) by typing in their names tacked by a ‘+’. Other changes include:

  • You can hit Ctrl+Enter and Shift+Enter to submit a comment or post.
  • You can hit ‘M’ to hit a post.
  • You can use a little dropdown to help with the sharing on Twitter and Facebook.

+Photo Zoom

Google Plus Ext02

+Photo Zoom (UPDATE: This tool is not available anymore) is a simple extension providing fast and simple zooming for photos within your Google+ Stream. Just hover over the image you wish to zoom and +Photo Zoom will load the enlarged version of the picture.

Surplus turns your Chrome into a Google Plus client by allowing you to use Google Plus from within the extension pop-up itself. You can set it up to receive desktop notifications (and with sound!), and share posts from within the pop-up. Surplus also gives you a choice of modes which allow you to control the features you want in this Google Plus ‘client’. The extension’s icon also displays the number of notifications.

These four extensions give you a few enhancements which Google Plus does not provide as default. From more convenient ways of sharing to a quicker way to interact with your network of friends, which is your favored extension? Or do you have another which is not on this list?
