Snapchat has been reeling under ever-growing pressure from its Facebook-owned competitor, Instagram. Now, to expand the capabilities of its Publisher Stories feature that was launched three years ago, the company will now allow school/college/university newspapers to feature on the platform.
The Publisher Stories feature was announced on Snapchat to allow the users on the social community to access high-quality content from media companies across the globe.
Now, the company has introduced Campus Publisher Stories, which gives school newspapers the ability to post content on the platform.
Snapchat is more popular among teenagers and this expansion of Publisher Stories to include native school and college newspapers should give it a push as they are a source of information and entertainment for students.
“School newspapers play a critical role in informing and entertaining their campus communities, and they are often where the many leading journalists and editors that we work with got their start,” the company wrote in a blog post.
Snapchat will be partnering with dozens of schools, colleges, and universities that will create Publisher Stories and distribute them to the platform. These stories will also feature Snap Ads, which will help individual publications to monetize and grow via the revenue sharing agreement.
“We are honored to partner with talented students across the country to empower the next generation of journalists and we can’t wait to see what they create!” the blog post read.

Snapchat has been falling behind in the race to scale its popularity among social media enthusiasts as Facebook and its other social media platforms such as Instagram have been copying its popular features.
Facebook and Instagram have also been successful in transforming those features into a success story on their platform, especially due to the larger user base.
However, the Campus Publisher Stories feature could contribute to Snapchat’s growth as it will cater to a majority of its teenage users.
