What’s New in Next-Gen 4K-enabled Amazon Fire TV

Alongside the announcement of an array of revamped and new Amazon Echo devices including Echo Plus, the company has also launched the new-gen Amazon Fire TV with support for 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR).

The 4K Ultra HD Amazon Fire TV is available for pre-order and will start shipping to US customers on October 25.

With Amazon’s Fire TV, you can watch shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube and other streaming services, play games, access thousands of apps and also subscribe to TV channels.

“With Alexa, the new Fire TV makes it easier to navigate content and discover great movies and TV shows, all by using your voice,” said Marc Whitten, Vice President, Amazon Fire TV.

What’s New on Fire TV?

At a retail price of $69.99. Amazon Fire TV claims to be the most affordable 4K-enabled streaming device in the market and houses a lot of improvements over the Alexa-enabled Amazon Fire TV Stick.

“The all-new Fire TV delivers a great entertainment experience with the best picture quality on a Fire TV, 4K Ultra HD, HDR, and an unbeatable selection of content – all at an affordable price,” said Whitten.

  • The Amazon Fire TV Stick is powered by MediaTek quad-core processor, which clocks at 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM and can store 8GB worth of data
  • Users can stream 4K Ultra HD titles from Amazon Video, Netflix and more when connected to a 4K or HDR compatible TV, using the Fire TV Stick with Dolby Digital audio for 5.1 and 7.1 channel system
  • The new Fire TV can also control smart home enabled lights, thermostats, and other compatible devices.
  • The device is powered by Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa which helps you start Game of Thrones on your TV as well as order a pizza to go alongwith and book a Uber to go to your friend’s place afterward
  • The device supports dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth enabled and games on the Fire TV can also be played using a compatible Bluetooth controller

Amazon is working with multiple partners to enhance the experience of users using voice commands to play shows and is also adding new services to its existing catalog.

Get Dot with Fire TV for a Little Extra

Amazon is also offering Echo Dot device, which otherwise costs $49.99 as a standalone product, alongwith Fire TV for $79.99. You also have the option to buy the Fire TV Stick that was launched last year alongwith the Echo Dot for a combined price of $59.99.

Customers who purchase the new 4k-enabled Amazon Fire TV device ‘will also receive two months of Hulu (Limited or No Commercials), a one-month trial of Showtime, and a $10 credit to rent or buy content from Amazon Video — a value of up to $45’.
