Although Nokia has only recently joined the Android bandwagon, it isn’t shying away from setting standards for other brands. The company boasts of timely security update patch for their devices and has already released the latest September Android security patch for Nokia 6 and Nokia 5, with Nokia 3 to get it soon.
HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 at an event in New Delhi on Tuesday and during the event, Ajey Mehta, VP – India, HMD Global, announced that Nokia 3 will receive the latest security patch for Android by the end of this week (or the end of the month).
While this should be the trend, phone makers take their own sweet time to customise the security patches for their devices and deliver the update, but Nokia is making an exception.
Security on the internet is important and since Android still possesses a number of vulnerabilities that surface every now and then, it’s extremely important that phone companies take these security patches with utmost seriousness and deliver them to their customers at a lightning-fast pace.
What’s even more surprising is that Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 aren’t even flagship phones of the brand, rather just budget devices and if anything, this goes to show that HMD is as good as keeping promises as they’re at making them.
While security updates for Nokia 3 are a bit delayed, the last time the device got the update within two weeks of release and the company has confirmed that it — along with Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 — will also be upgraded to Android Oreo soon.
Other than Nokia, BlackBerry is also not far behind in the race and releases security patches for its device at around the same time every month — but since BlackBerry is famed for its security, this fact doesn’t come as a surprise.
