Nokia 8 Launched in India at Rs 36,999: Specs and Features

HMD Global, the new home of Nokia Phones, unveiled its fourth Android-powered smartphone — Nokia 8 — earlier this year and they launched the device at an event in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday at Rs 36,999.

The Nokia 8 sports top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and the company is rumored to release an 8GB RAM variant later this year.

The Nokia 8 will go on sale on October 14, on Amazon and offline stores.

The brand has kept the bigger bezels and capacitive buttons in spite of the industry-wide trend of thin bezels on flagship devices.

This is also the first Nokia device by HMD Global to collaborate with Zeiss for the camera optics. The Nokia 8 will be manufactured in India.

“Millennials, today, are always exploring new ways to create and share content. It’s these creative content creators who inspired us to craft a smartphone with them in mind. That’s why we’ve worked to bring three world firsts – the debut collaboration with ZEISS, OZO spatial 360° Audio, and real-time live streaming using Dual-Sight mode,” Ajey Mehta, VP-India, HMD Global, said during the event.

Quirky Features

During a video call on the Nokia 8, users have the option to switch the video feed on from both the front and the rear camera at the same time. The company calls this ‘Dual Sight Live’ and more favorably ‘bothie’.

The Dual Sight is powered by Qualcomm Spectra tech, which facilitates simultaneous image and video capture using both front and rear camera.

The device will be available in two variants — single and dual sim — and will run on Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box.

The Nokia 8 sports an always-on display, which shows notifications for calls, SMS, and email, along with the clock, day, date, and battery percentage.

The Nokia 8 comes with Bluetooth 5 and NFC. It will appear in blue-and-copper glossy and blue-and-grey matte colors.

The addition of Nokia 8 brings up the total number of feature and smart phones offered by the company in India to eight — four of each.
