Love CCleaner? Have it on your computer? Well, then your computer and your personal data might be at risk. The popular system cleaning utility has been reportedly compromised and is opening a backdoor on your computer that could lead to loss of security and data leaks.

Popular security company Avast bought CCleaner from Piriform in July. Following which, the parent company Avast found out the vulnerability in the popular application.

According to a report, CCleaner was found out to be infected. While steps have been taken to counter the problem, there are millions of users who are still exposed due to this.

CCleaner Users be Alarmed

The August version of CCleaner was discovered containing the issue of vulnerability. With this backdoor, hackers gained access to the data and were hooking onto them.

While using the backdoor, hackers did not push users to install any new application but their security was being compromised.

According to Piriform’s blog post, its programs released in August were compromised and users of CCleaner v5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191 are advised to download new versions.

What To Do Now?

If you are using CCleaner v5.33.6162 or CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191, make sure that you install the new version that the company has made available.

While there are automatic updates available for the apps, many users avoid or ignore update alerts. To be on the safer side, it is better to completely uninstall the application and start afresh.

It should, however, be kept in mind that CCleaner is a legitimate application with a number of good utilities.

The application, however, was compromised by miscreants to gain access to the user’s data.
