Amazon has announced some cool new features for its internet connected speaker, Echo. Going forward, Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa would be able to control not just one but many Echo speakers at once. With this new feature, Alexa now has added the ability to control music playback, between devices.
For now, the functionality is limited to Amazon powered devices only. But in the future Amazon is looking forward to offering the same functionality across third party devices as well.
To enable this Amazon has also rolled-out the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) Multi-Room Music SDK to the developers. Building on this, third party audio equipment manufacturers would be able to bring similar functionality to their devices as well.
We’re making Alexa even smarter with an all-new feature that lets you play music synchronized on multiple Echo devices.
“Today, we’re making Alexa even smarter with an all-new feature that lets you play music synchronized on multiple Echo devices to provide room-filling music throughout your home,” said Toni Reid, Vice President, Amazon Alexa.
Alexa in India
While Amazon’s Echo is not officially available in India, devices are still fully functional and users can access some of the internet content through them. This is mainly because most of the supported internet streaming services do not offer support for India.
Amazon is currently working with global brands including Sonos, Bose, Sound United, and Samsung. Out of these many brands offer their products and services in India, which is great news. Once the services are rolled out by these brands, users in India are likely to get these features as well.
