OnePlus 5 Oxygen OS 4.5.8 Rolled Out: Improvements for Game Stutters and Jio Users

Earlier this month, OnePlus rolled out Oxygen OS 4.5.7 update for all of its OnePlus 5 devices, which included important camera features, Android’s July security patches, connectivity improvements, battery enhancements and more.

Soon after releasing Oxygen OS 4.5.7, the company has released another update for OnePlus 5 — Oxygen OS 4.5.8

But due to a game stutter issue, the update was stopped by the company in the midst of the roll out. Now, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has rolled out another software update to OnePlus 5 with Oxygen OS 4.5.8.

Alongside the additions, improvements and bug fixes rolled out in the previous update, the company has also fixed two more issues related to stutters during gaming and battery drain for Jio users.

“OxygenOS 4.5.7 was withdrawn, we are pushing out the incremental roll-out of OxygenOS 4.5.8 OTA for the OnePlus 5 instead. The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we’ll begin a broader rollout in a few days,” the company stated.

Everything New in Oxygen OS 4.5.8 Update

EIS has been Added to the Camera

OnePlus 5 was marketed by the company with a huge focus on the camera but its EIS feature wasn’t working on the device while recording videos.

The EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) feature helps in improving the stability of the video being shot. It works in the background, analysing every frame and cropping it keeping in mind the stability of the video.

After the update, the EIS feature will work while recording 4K videos. We downloaded the update over VPN and tested out the feature. It works but the OIS-EIS combo as seen on OnePlus 3T is still missing.

Google released a crucial security patch in July, which fixed a lot of vulnerabilities in Android that could’ve helped an attacker gain remote access over the device.

The latest security patch aims at fixing vulnerabilities affecting Android devices including ‘critical security vulnerability in media framework that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code’. OnePlus has customised this update for its latest flagship killer, making the device more secure.

The company has also added a new OnePlus Slate font to the device in this update.

Connectivity and Battery Improvements

The company has also fixed bugs that were hampering the WiFi connectivity of the devices and has made enhancements that will improve the standby time of the battery.

Other Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the bug which led to a sound leak to the speakers while using the earphones
  • Fixed the bug which was creating camera shutter sound even in the silent mode (Indian region)
  • Fixed the bug which led to missing sound clips in video recordings
  • Fixed stutters when playing a game on the OnePlus 5
  • Fixed battery drain for Reliance Jio users (Indian region)

OnePlus 5 recently also received a software update for fixing the 911 calling bug which rebooted the phone whenever a user called the emergency service.
