Xiaomi has launched the latest version of their operating system, the MIUI 9, at an event in Beijing, alongside the launch of its latest Mi 5X device.
Xiaomi’s MIUI, the company’s first product which was launched in 2010, is currently used by over 2.8 billion active users in 142 countries, speaking in 55 unique languages.
MIUI is Xiaomi’s custom user interface which is built on the stock Android supplied by Google. The MIUI 9 which is based on the latest Android Nougat operating system will house the following features.
One of the three new features seen on MIUI 9 is the image search functionality which allows users to search their photo gallery using the following keywords: people, events, locations, documents and screenshots.
Corroborating with earlier rumours, the MIUI 9 is going to sport a native smart assistant which gives an easier way for users to find schedules, notes and more on their device as well as get things done.
Smart App Launcher
The MIUI 9 makes it easier for you to launch an app in accordance with the screen contents with its smart app launcher. Per se, if you’re talking about searching for a place via Maps, your Xiaomi device might show the map app at the bottom.
According to Xiaomi, all these three features will only be available in China for the time being.
The company has optimised its core system in the following 12 aspects:
Dynamic resource allocation
Critical background acceleration
Core congestion control
New file system
Abnormal exclusion protection
Improved communication efficiency
Haptic feedback optimisation
Optimised Launch Time
The company has worked on optimising the launch time on the MIUI 9 and everything from apps to any system will launch quicker than before.
The company has worked over optimising haptic feedback, optimising thread scheduling and enhanced CPU acceleration in order to be able to make the launch time of the apps as well as the system super fast.
Optimised Resource Allocation
In the MIUI 9, Xiaomi has also worked on optimising how system resources are allocated to the apps running on the device. Via dynamic allocation, the company has ensured that the app that is running in the foreground (app in-use) gets priority when allocating system resources as opposed to an app on standby in the background.
