Google Daydream View Launches in India: Price and Features

More than six months after launching it, Google’s virtual reality headset — Google DayDream View — has finally made its way to India at a price of Rs.6,499 and will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.

The VR headset was announced at last year’s Google I/O developer conference, has been on sale in several countries since November 2016.

Google’s Daydream View headset gives users the opportunity to experience sports, live events, movies and more in full 360-degree panoramic view.

“Daydream view promises users a mesmerising experience. Swim with a pod of dolphins, stand at the edge of a volcano and even visit Pluto with Daydream View. Users can teleport from virtually anywhere to pretty much everywhere,” said Clay Bavor, VP of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality at Google.

Currently, Daydream View is only supported by Google’s Pixel, Pixel XL and Moto Z. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will soon be able to support the VR headset.

Daydream is only supported by devices that have high-resolution displays, powerful mobile processors and high-fidelity sensors — so it’s safe to say that support for Google’s VR headset will only be seen on high-end flagship devices or the likes.

“Our aim is to make the VR experience mobile so that customers can easily carry it anywhere with them. We at Google are also working with developers, smartphone companies and content creators to make VR accessible to all,” he added.

The headset is made of breathable fabric and can even accommodate eyeglasses. Daydream-enabled devices and the VR headset have an auto-alignment system, which means users don’t have to worry about cables or connectors.

The Daydream view comes with a controller which lets users interact with the VR world, as they would in the real world.

The sensors on the Daydream View make this interaction even seamless as it responds with extreme precision to the gestures and movements of a user.

Although Virtual Reality isn’t as widespread yet, users can still enjoy VR videos on YouTube or check out more than 150 curated places for VR on Street View, Arts & Culture and more.

There are also number of apps and games on Daydream which include the New York Times VR, Netflix VR, Fantastic Beasts, Mekorama VR, Need for Speed No Limits VR and lots more.

The first 30 customers who buy the Daydream View headset will receive a Google Chromecast for free, while the first 50 customers will receive a Google Play Store Credit worth Rs.500. PhonePe users on Flipkart who pay via UPI will also receive Rs.300 off on the final payment.
