Andy Rubin exited Google two years ago and started his own startup incubator called Playground Global and started another VC firm called Redpoint Ventures.

This year began with the news of Rubin starting another company, Essential, which would work on consumer-based hardware products with a focus on smart home devices.

In March, he confirmed the bezel-free design of the Essential smartphone and confirmed that it will be hitting the market soon.

Talking about the smartphone with BloombergTechnology, Andy Rubin said that the device will feature “a large edge-to-edge screen that lacks a surrounding bezel.”

The report also mentioned that one of the prototypes of the device had metal sides and a ceramic rear.

Andy Rubin’s comeback into the Android ecosphere has been creating buzz among tech enthusiasts and his high-end Essential smartphone will be pitted against flagships like Google’s Pixel, Galaxy S8 and the latest iteration of iPhone.

The company has finally come to life on Twitter and have put out a tweet stating that something big is going to be announced on May 30. In a later tweet, they’ve shared a silhouette image of the Essential smartphone.

The silhouette showcases a protrusion at the top edge of the device, which many have speculated to be a 360-degree camera based on this tweet by Rubin in April.

Going by the announcements earlier this year, followed by the teasers in the later months, the latest Twitter confirmation indicates towards an unveiling of the device on May 30.

There is no other information about the company except that their office is based in Palo Alto, California.

The announcement of the device comes in close proximity to the launch of OnePlus 5 device which has been confirmed for a release this summer in June.
