It has been confirmed that OnePlus 5, the successor to last year’s flagship killer — the OnePlus 3T — will sport the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and the company are working towards providing a ‘smooth, powerful and efficient performance’ with their upcoming flagship device.
OnePlus 5 was earlier confirmed for launch by the end of June 2017, and the company has been teasing their next flagship on their social media channels.
Owing to its powerful performance and relatively economical price tag — compared to flagships by Google and Samsung, the device’s primary competitors — OnePlus 3T gained a massive amount of appreciation from critics and users alike.
The OnePlus 5 will have a tough time as the expectations set by the company owing to the success of the OnePlus 3T and 3 devices.
“We’re proud to announce the OnePlus 5 will feature the Snapdragon 835 processor, which sets the foundation for smooth powerful, and efficient performance,” says Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus.
The 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is the thinnest chipset powering smartphones at 10nm and clocks at 2.45GHz.
While the company has put great emphasis on the overall performance and design of the device, the main area that they wanted to improve was the touch latency.
“Our engineers tested why scrolling occasionally differed between phones. As a result, apps respond quickly to your touch for a seamless user experience,” he adds.
There also has been several modifications to the Oxygen OS which now has been optimised with a better way to manage your apps.
When the OnePlus 5 is turned on, only the apps that are used the most start running in the background in order to reduce the lag while accessing these apps.
The apps which are least used by a user will be deprioritised and won’t run on start up to avoid hampering the device’s performance.
“We’re driven to perfect even the smallest aspects of our products. And when you get your hands on the OnePlus 5, we hope you’ll notice the difference,” Lau concludes.
The company captured even a wider market with the introduction of performance oriented OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T devices last year and have set the bar quite high for their next iteration.
It was long speculated that the OnePlus 5 will receive Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor and we can’t wait to see what other features the OnePlus 5 packs under its hood and how it shapes up on the outside.
