Social media channels, especially those owned by Facebook — namely the social network itself, Instagram and WhatsApp — have been heavily borrowing features from Snapchat and here is another one to add to the list.
“Now you can see what’s happening around you and find stories related to your interests. You’ll see a new story ring at the top of Explore filled with stories happening near you,” the company stated.
For your story to appear in the Explore tab or to people when they search for the specific hashtag, firstly your profile needs to be set to public.
Location and Story Stickers
While posting a story you’ll see two new options: Location stickers and Story stickers, which you can choose to add to your image which will then be added to a broader Story-base on Instagram.
Instagram users aren’t only restricted to check out stories happening around their physical location but can search for any place in the world and take a look at the stories from that place too.
The hashtag sticker works in a similar way to the location stickers. When people search for a hashtag, now they might even see a story ring on the top of the page with stories consisting a similar hashtag sticker.
“Add a location sticker or hashtag to your story and you may be included in the larger story. If your story is added, you’ll see a line at the top of your stories viewer list showing how many people saw it in the larger story,” the company added.
People who do not wish for their stories to appear under the Explore tab can tap the ‘X’ on their stories viewer list and opt to ‘Hide’ their story.
While location stories have been rolled out as part of the latest Android and iOS update, Hashtag stories will see a roll out in the following weeks.
Snapchat Adds Features to Customise Stories
Snapchat has been facing numerous difficulties since Instagram introduced stories and has been trying to increasingly innovate its photo-sharing app to keep the dwindling user base from a sharp fall.
On Tuesday, Snap Inc. announced several new features that’ll make Snapchat stories an even more customised experience.
“Create custom stories — about anything, with any of your friends, even for a specific location! It’s perfect for a trip, a birthday party, or a new baby story just for the family,” the company stated.
Users can now decide who all can add images to their Story and who gets to view your story. Geofencing the story to a specific location is also an option that people can use to customise and make their stories more easily searchable.
Geofencing stories will also help other users to find out what’s happening in a specific location at a given time — helping Snapchat find another way to increase user engagement with their platform.
If no one contributes to a Story for 24 hours, then it will disappear.
