The Truecaller app has over 100 million downloads on Google Play Store and has emerged as a useful tool for people to learn about their caller — be it one of your friends, a stranger or a sales call which you would want to avoid.
The update includes features such as SMS inbox, Flash Messaging, Truecaller Pay and more.
“We have been able to build a mobile identity platform and ecosystem that more and more people are relying on a daily basis to build safe and meaningful services on top of it and today we’re finally able to showcase the true potential of Truecaller,” said Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller.
All updates, except the integration with Google Duo (also for iOS) and Airtel integration (for Feature phones), are only available to Android users.
The new smart SMS feature on Truecaller app gets the same kind of filter it always has had for calling. Now messages to your inbox will be filtered for spam.
The new feature will automatically identify unknown numbers, block any spam or telemarketing messages and block messages from specific names and number series.
The app also gains a Flash messaging feature which allows users to send pre-defined messages for various things such as you’ve reached your destination safely, your location, a distress call or even an emoji. Saves you time and effort both to answer some banal questions at least.
The feature is available to both ICICI and non-ICICI bank account holders.
Users will have to create a unique Virtual Payment Address (VPA) in the app. Following which they can send or receive money via a UPI (Unified Payments Interface) supported bank.
ICICI will be responsible for handling the transactions via Truecaller Pay. Truecaller won’t be keeping a database of user’s information including account details or the credit/debit card details.
Google Duo Integration
Truecaller has partnered with Google to integrate their Google Duo app features within Truecaller app.
Video calling gives additional value to the app as the app’s Dialer, caller ID and spam blocking can also be used for video calls.
This feature isn’t live yet and will be made available in the next few months.
Airtel Truecaller ID integration (For India)
Truecaller has partnered with Airtel, an Indian service provider, to send flash messages with caller’s information for unknown numbers to non-data feature phone users before a call hit’s the user’s device.
This could help a lot many feature phone users to avoid spam calls as well as the ones they want to. It’s a subscription-based service available to all feature phone owners on the Airtel network.
