Although tablets are falling on the popularity scale among gadgets in the current era, Apple is trying to maintain its stronghold in the failing market.
The new device will be available for purchase on March 24, 2017.
“iPad is the world’s most popular tablet. Customers love the large, 9.7-inch display for everything from watching TV and movies, to surfing the web, making FaceTime calls, and enjoying photos, and now it is even more affordable,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing.
The New iPad: Cheaper Yet Powerful
The new iPad starts at $329 for 32GB version with Wi-Fi, which is cheaper when compared to iPad Air 2, that last sold at a price close to $400. Let’s take a look at its hardware and software specifications.
The new iPad features a 9.7-inch Retina display (2048 x 1536).
It is powered by Apple’s 64-bit A9 chip.
The iPad sports an 8MP rear camera and 1.2MP front camera. The cameras record full HD videos at 1080p.
The tablet runs on iOS 10 and depending on the variant supports Wi-Fi and LTE.
It comes with the TouchID fingerprint sensor.
The new iPad’s battery lasts up to 10 hours and it weighs merely 1 pound.
“New Customers and anyone looking to upgrade will love this new iPad for use at home, in school, and for work, with its gorgeous Retina display, our powerful A9 chip and access to more than 1.3 million apps designed specifically for it,” Schiller added.
The new iPad will come in silver, gold and space grey colour variants. The Cupertino-based tech titan has released their new tablet in four price variants.
The cheapest version which comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and 32GB internal storage is worth $329 while the 32GB variant with Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity costs $459. Apple’s new iPad with 128GB internal storage and Wi-Fi connectivity costs $429 and the 128GB LTE version costs $559.
The device will go on sale in more than 20 countries including US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK on March 24.
Sales of the new iPad in India, Mexico, Russia, Denmark, Norway and Turkey will begin April, followed by May release for Brazil, Taiwan and several other countries.
