At an event in New Delhi, Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar announced the latest addition to the features offered on the Paytm app with an in-app POS which will enable its affiliated merchants to accept credit and debit card payments from customers.
The company points out that there are only 1.4 million card payment gateways in India to cater for the 750 million credit and debit cards.
The app POS will allow smaller retailers to skip the hassles of acquiring a swipe machine, enabling them to accept card payments via the Paytm app using their smartphones.
How Does the Paytm App POS Work?
Paying through the app POS is a rather simple process, explained in three steps below.
The merchant will create a bill in-app and hand over the phone to your to enter your card details.
Next, you’ll receive an OTP on your mobile number registered with the bank.
Enter the OTP on the merchant’s mobile, and you’re good to go.
You can view the digital receipt on the merchant’s device and will also receive an SMS from your card provider detailing the recent debit.
This might seem more tedious than a quick swipe of the card, you entering the PIN number and taking a printed receipt as confirmation of the payment, but this surely is going to help you make card payments at smaller shops which won’t be possible otherwise.
