uTorrent is by far one of the best and most popular bittorrent clients. What makes it even better is its availability across platforms i.e. Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices like Android and iPhone.
Well, we are not going to talk about its availability or its usage. You probably know all that. What you may not know is how to disable the banner ads that flash on the user interface, on the left bar and on the top just below the toolbar. Let us see how to do it.
Before we start, let me show you an example of one such advertisement.
First and foremost, launch the uTorrent client on your machine. Then follow the steps below:
Step 1: Navigate to Options -> Preferences. The direct keyboard shortcut for the same is Ctrl + P.
Step 2: On the Preferences window, on the left pane, click the Advanced option. Do not expand it, simply click on Advanced.
Step 3: Now you got to look for the advertisement options. In the Filter text box type offer. That will filter out the required options.
Take note of the last two options. Here’s what they mean:-
left_rail_offer: This option, if true, allows ads to flash on the left rail of the uTorrent client.
sponsored_torrent_offer: This option is the control for showing offers at the top of the main view. Keep it true/false accordingly.
Step 4: In order to turn the ads off, double click on each of the options and change their value to false. Click on Ok.
Step 5: Exit and close the uTorrent client. Give it some time to sync the set preferences.
When you open the client again you will not see the advertisements. Voila!
Quick Tip: We have one more interesting uTorrent tip for you. You may enable video streaming on the client so that you can take a preview or watch as the video is being downloaded.
Though the adverts aren’t much of a nuisance, they may be irritating at times. And by removing them you get a cleaner interface. Besides, it keeps you safe from accidentally clicking on an ad and making unwanted installs or downloads.
Are you aware of any other tricks that can get you more productive with uTorrent. If yes, let us know. We would be glad to learn. If no, tell us what you are looking for. We shall try to come up with answers.
