Google transit is a public transportation planning tool that combines the transport agency data with Google Maps. It displays transit stop, route, schedule, and fare information. You can get the directions from one point to another in the city via public transportation (along with driving directions, which is default in Google Maps).
Let’s say you are in a new city and you have no idea about the roads, routes and transit information. In such a situation, this service can come in handy. Just visit Google Transit. It has the same user interface as Google maps. Enter the start and destination address in the required field, select leave or arrive from the drop down, then select date and time and hit the “Get direction” button. That’s it.
Currently this service is present in more than 500 cities across the world including all regional and national rail networks, domestic airlines, ferries in Japan and Delhi Metro in India. And Google continues to add more and more public agencies on request.
It definitely helps you to get rid of traffic snarls by providing accurate information about public transportation. Of course, it saves time and money too.
