All of us are acquainted with the tabbed browsing interface that all modern browsers come with. Not just that, people have also experienced the promise of increased productivity while using such interfaces. Navigation and accessibility becomes so much easier. We do not have to scroll to the taskbar each time we want to switch a window.
How many of you have actually wished that you had the same interface on your Windows Explorer? If the answer is yes, here is a solution for you. Tab Explorer is such a tool that activates tabbed explorer interface. It stands out among others because of the small things that have been taken care of in this software. Let us see what it offers.
Using Tab Explorer
The installation is a breeze. In the last step you can choose to launch the tool immediately.
Immediately, the Tab Explorer wizard will be presented for you to set your preferences. Enable Tab Explorer is something we definitely want to check and turn on. The rest depends on our own comfort zone.
The moment we have the tabbed feature activated, all our windows (which are currently) open will be consolidated into a single window with named tabs for easy identification.
You can remove a tab from any group or add new ones by the drag and drop like activity that works on web browsers. If you want to add a totally new tab then you should hit on the last tab on the interface.
Switching between the tabs is very easy as each one has its own identifier. If many tabs are open and you are not able to locate something from the clutter, you can use the drop down option (leftmost button).
Besides, Window Tools and Folder Tools provide some wonderful options like keeping tab always on top, altering the transparency, opening command prompt at the current location, copying current path and more.
Note: Clicking on the Window cross icon will close the current tab. To close all of them at once you will have to take the right-click option as mentioned above.
The best part about the tool is its ability to color the tabs differently. That really helps in locating the tabs quickly and easily. We know human minds are better with colors than with text.
For all other options like enabling/disabling and opening the settings wizard, you would have to navigate to the system tray icon.
For all the tablet users it also comes with a touch mode. Open the settings wizard and have it enabled.
I tried many tools to get such a tabbed interface. However, some had restrictions with the number of tabs, some were complex to use and some did not appeal to me. Tab Explorer has been good to me till now. 🙂
