How to Clear Your Amazon Search History

If you share an Amazon account or computer with someone else, you might not always want them seeing everything you search for online. Whether you’re shopping for something that may be embarrassing or you’re trying to surprise someone with a gift, it’s useful to clear your Amazon search history every now and then. While it’s possible and fairly easy to do so, Amazon for some reason does seem to bury this feature in your account.

Before we begin, keep in mind that deleting your Amazon search history will not delete your Amazon orders.

Tip: To do that, visit the Orders page on the Amazon website and click Archive Order next to the one you want to tuck away from wandering eyes.

Delete Your Amazon Browsing History

To delete items in your Amazon search history, first go to the Amazon website on your computer. (It’s easier there.)

In the navigation bar, hover over the Account & Lists menu. Then click Your Account.

Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the Account page. Here you can see a carousel of “Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations.” Underneath that over on the right, locate the tiny link that says View or edit your browsing history and click it.

Here you can see every single product you recently searched for or stumbled upon. To delete items one by one, click the Remove button under each individual product.

If you want to bulk delete your browsing history, you can tap Manage history toward the top right of the page. Here you can get rid of everything by clicking the Remove all items button.

Plus, disable Amazon browsing history entirely by switching the toggle on or off. If you switch it off, any product you view from then on won’t save to your history until you turn this setting on again. While it’s useful for gift shopping, you run the risk of forgetting important items you came across and being unable to go back and find them.

Delete Your Entire Browsing History

You may be thinking, well now that I deleted my Amazon browsing history, anyone can still just go look at my browser’s search history and see what I’ve been up to. You’re very correct, as deleting products you searched for in your Amazon account won’t remove the evidence from your computer or smartphone.

Fortunately, Guiding Tech has you covered on this front too. Take a look at our guides for getting rid of search history on your iPhone and Android, plus how to erase it from your Google account too. You also might consider just having your browser automatically clear your history the moment you close it. Or at least use private browsing or incognito mode when you want to get some of that sneaky shopping done.

These are all of the essential tools for getting rid of your Amazon search history and also getting rid of your browser history whether on computer or mobile. Hopefully now you should be able to browse and make purchases with more peace of mind. Happy shopping!
