Microsoft has unveiled its successor to the Surface Keyboard — a new ‘Modern Keyboard’ which comes with a fingerprint scanner and although it comes with Bluetooth Smart tech, it has the ability to use a cable to make the connection wired.
The Fingerprint sensor on the new keyboard by Microsoft has been embedded in such a way that it stays hidden as it appears ‘ to be any other key’ and functions like one too.
Microsoft’s Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID will be available for $129.99 and will work with Windows 10.
“We iterated relentlessly to improve each layer, making sure they came together to create a flawless typing experience that felt like any other key.” the company stated.
The keyboard comes with an aluminium top case as the company has embedded the fingerprint sensor within the Windows key on the right-hand side of the keyboard — below the ‘Enter’ and ‘Shift’ keys.
Since the keyboard can work both with and without wires, it’ll appeal to a wider audience as it can accommodate needs of people in accordance with their preference — a wired connection or wireless.
“We optimized the Bluetooth pairing experience, enabling automatic pairing when you connect the cable at first OOBE,” the company adds to the product description.
The Modern Keyboard comes in a silver-grayish finish and uses rechargeable batteries to support its power needs.
It works with any device supporting Bluetooth 4.0 or higher — be it a PC running Windows 8 or 10, a Windows 10 or Android phone and macOS. The Windows 10 Surface Studio, Pro and laptop devices are also supported by the keyboard.
Alongside the Modern Keyboard, Microsoft has also launched the Modern Mouse ($49.99), which doesn’t have anything as unique as a fingerprint sensor, but is designed to work seamlessly with Windows as well as lend aesthetical value to your workstation and comfort to the user’s hand.
