YouTube Video Speed History Compares Video Downloading Speeds

Youtube recently launched a video speed display dashboard that displays gives you an idea of your video loading speed and benchmarks it against the global average. You can see the one month average video speed (in Kbps) of users in your city, state, country, and global.

This database updates per day so that you can get accurate information. It’ll help you see if your ISP is giving you a fair deal when it comes to loading YouTube videos in your browser.

In the above given figure you can clearly see the my ISP’s pathetic speed when it compares to nearby cities and the global average. It indicates that problem lies with my ISP provider. I can now show them this data and ask them the reason behind this slow speed.

What is YouTube’s aim behind this service?

YouTube wants to give you a clear picture of the video download speeds you get on average so that you could attempt to switch to a better ISP if you find the current one unsatisfactory. Faster the download speed, faster the video would load and more would be the time you’d spend on YouTube…that is exactly what YouTube wants.

The average global speed shown in the stats is 2.91 Mbps.
